|Listed on the State and National Registers of Historic Places, Read was constructed in 1879. There have been several building additions since. Read is a welcoming school known for its friendly and caring staff. Meeting the needs of the whole child is important to us. We want all of our students to grow both academically and socially! Special programs include the Pre-School Phonology Program for four year olds whose speech and language development is delayed, Cross-categorical special education, Speech & Language therapy, and ESL (English as a second language). Read enjoys the support of its parents and families in a variety of ways - including an active PTO. Among events sponsored by the PTO are movie nights and all school assemblies. Read offers a breakfast program and after-school care is provided by the YMCA.|

As part of a SOAR Grant Project and PTO Partnership, musician and song-writer Stuart Stotts helped the
students and staff of Read School write a song. The lyrics written below capture the warmth, excitement
and purpose of the school community.
Read School, a place of celebration.
Read School, our favorite destination.
Where lessons are learned, and friendships are formed.
Read School, friendly, fun and warm.
Our bell rings on school's first day,
And on Halloween.
It rings when summer break begins,
And sometimes in between.
In a Read School way
Golden Can and spirit week,
And on field day.
Parents, kids, and teachers, too.
That is who we are.
Learning helps us reach the sky. Like Rockets to the stars.
